Vivian Howard Pop-Up Dinner at Lucky Rooster

Chef Vivian Howard, known for her award-winning PBS show A Chef’s Life, will bring her stories and recipes to Hilton Head for two nights of dinners at Lucky Rooster Kitchen + Bar, where she’ll collaborate with chef Clayton Rollison to present recipes from her cookbook Deep Run Roots.

The book is named for her hometown of Deep Run, North Carolina — a place she describes as the middle of nowhere. After a decade in New York, however, she returned in 2005 and opened her popular restaurant Chef & the Farmer in nearby Kinston.

This will be not only a great opportunity to enjoy chef Howard’s recipes from her cookbook, but copies of her cookbook will be available for sale and she’s happy to personalize them for guests. Sounds like a great holiday gift to us! When: 5-10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24 Where: Lucky Rooster Kitchen + Bar, 841 William Hilton Parkway Reservations: 843-681-3474

A credit card is required to hold reservations of all party sizes. Menu items will be offered a la carte.

Super Bowl Wager Pop-up

Chefs are competitive. They have cook-offs and throw-downs and showdowns — and sometimes their bets boil over beyond the kitchen. For example, Hilton Head chefs Clayton Rollison and Lee Lucier wagered on this year’s Super Bowl. The chef whose team won got to unabashedly flaunt it by hosting a dinner with his cuisine at the losing chef’s restaurant. The winning chef also got to select the charity to benefit from the dinner’s proceeds. So with the game over and chef Rollison’s team defeated, he will open the doors at Lucky Rooster Kitchen + Bar to chef Lucier of FISH Seafood and Raw Bar for a dinner to benefit Volunteers in Medicine. The menu that evening has dishes like Not New England Clam Chowdah and Braised G.O.A.T. that oh-so-subtly remind who won and lost the game. Reservations for the dinner Thursday, March 1, are available beginning at 6 p.m. and can be made by calling 843-681-3474.
